Introducing Mistral Large, initially available as a SaaS offering, expands the collection of models on watsonx.ai. This includes the IBM Granite family of foundation models, encompassing open code, language, and specialized scientific models such as time series and geospatial. The addition of Mistral AI’s commercial model furthers IBM’s open, multi-model strategy, empowering enterprises to innovate, adapt, and scale effectively.

Commitment to Responsible AI and Innovation

IBM is dedicated to promoting responsible business innovation. Customers utilizing Mistral Large will receive protection through a capped intellectual property indemnity. This marks the first instance of IBM extending such indemnification in a third-party foundation model. This guarantees that enterprises can innovate confidently and be secure in the knowledge they have legal protections.

IBM and Mistral AI foster innovation with access to a blend of open-source and commercial models and smaller, super-efficient models on watsonx.ai that emphasize data control. This diverse approach enhances the quality and applicability of enterprise AI solutions, offering:

  • Data Store: Secure and scalable storage solutions
  • Prompt Lab: Tools for developing and refining AI prompts
  • Model Tuning: Customization options to optimize model performance
  • Production Monitoring and Governance: Comprehensive oversight capabilities to ensure responsible AI deployment

Watsonx customers are not bound by platform constraints, allowing them to deploy models in their environment of choice, whether on-premises or via a public cloud provider. This flexibility is essential in the ever-changing AI landscape, enabling enterprises to avoid wasted investments in infrastructure and development.

Optimized for Complex Enterprise Tasks

Mistral Large is optimized for handling complex enterprise tasks that require sophisticated reasoning and multilingual capabilities. Key functionalities include:

  • RAG Specialization: Supports extended chat interactions and processes large documents efficiently
  • Function Calling: Connects to external tools such as user-defined functions or APIs, facilitating the development of applications tailored to specific use cases
  • Coding Proficiency: Generates, reviews, and comments on code and can output results in JSON format, enhancing developer interaction with structured data
  • Multilingual Capability: Provides robust performance in multiple languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, and English, along with support for dozens of other languages
  • Responsible AI: Comes with built-in guardrail features, with an additional layer available for enhanced protection

Empowering European Organizations

The combination of IBM, Mistral AI, and the watsonx platform offers European organizations a powerful option to harness the benefits of foundation models while maintaining strong governance capabilities. This alignment reaffirms IBM’s commitment to building responsible AI solutions that meet stringent regulatory and ethical standards.

By integrating Mistral Large into the watsonx.ai ecosystem, IBM empowers enterprises with advanced AI tools that drive efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
